Seasonal alterations: what to plan for before the weather changes

Before a season of clothing truly begins, it's worth taking a few minutes to check things over — a coat's zip, a trouser hem, a lining that's spent winter in the wardrobe. A small alteration in spring saves a rush in autumn. 🪡

Coats and jackets after winter

Before putting a coat away for summer, check the zip and the seams at the shoulders — these wear the fastest. If the lining shows through or is coming apart at the seam after a season, it's better to replace it now rather than wait until autumn, when we have more work and less time for urgent requests.

Trousers and skirts for a new season

A change in weight, new shoes, or simply wanting a different length are the most common reasons people bring trousers and skirts in for alterations in spring and autumn. Shortening a straight cut is quick work, and on jeans we're happy to keep the original factory hem.

Evening dresses for special occasions

If you're preparing for a wedding, a ball or another event, bring the dress in for a fitting well in advance — more demanding work, like restyling or a shoulder adjustment, needs time for several fittings.
